Friday Float: Your Ultimate Summer Outfit Guide
With items you can actually get just in time for your summer beach vacay
Hi guys! Welcome to the fifth edition of the Friday Float! I’m so excited and kind of proud of myself that I’ve kept up with this series, just basically allowing me to brain dump about whatever is on my mind relating to travel, culture, beaches, and any other hot takes that I have at the moment. It’s really a nice space to just give shorter notes and connect with you readers on a different level.
One thing that’s been on my mind as of late is that I’ve been dressing pretty poorly. I’m not really sure why that is, because I actually do have a pretty high affinity for clothing and fashion. I used to love browsing through stores and on second-hand websites, and I could spend hours doing this, days and days on end. Recently, it’s just kind of lost its luster for me, and I really think maybe that’s just because the weather in NYC has been super odd. Like one day it’s 90 degrees and the next day it’s 60. I just don’t really know how to dress for the constant changes, and sometimes when things are too complicated, it’s just not really working for me.
That being said, I’m using this post to help me/help you pick out some really fun outfits for the summer season! I’m curating a couple of things that I think are versatile and on trend that you can actually get in time for your upcoming summer trips. Whether that’s to your local beach town or if you’re doing a full-blown Euro summer, I’m really excited to be working with Shopbop to bring you some cute summer outfit staples that are actually available and ready to be shipped to you in 2 days or less.
So happy reading, and hopefully this helps you find a cute outfit or at least get some outfit inspo! And as always, I’ll see you at the beach 💙.
Outfit Inspo
How adorable is this wooden fish purse? The fish motif is transitioning from jewelry to purses now and I am into it. I’ll be paring this with a flowy top and some relaxed white wash denim shorts and sandals. I want the bag to stand out in this ensemble. Also adding some gold stud earrings to bring some more color to the overall outfit.
I think it’s safe to say that taffeta pants are in for the summer - and Chan Luu is the cool girl brand to get them from. I’m pairing these barrel pants with a fitted white t- shirt and some funkier accessories to complete the look. Necklace & purse options I’m loving linked here, here, here and here. These clear strap sandals also add something to the outfit with their pink undertones. These Chan Luu pants also come in so many different colorways and shapes. Really loving the lighter silver option and the classic black as well.
Who can say no to a breezy mini dress to wear in the summer heat? Another similar option here. I’m thinking of wearing something like this on a walking heavy day while I’m in the South of France this summer. Maybe this dress can even double as a beach cover-up? Paring this with some sun gear (sunglasses and hat always) and a tote to hold all my cool market finds. You can easily change this from day to night by swapping the sneakers to some embellished flats and adding some stand out jewelry.
Summer Trend Rundown (From My Eyes)
In addition to putting together the above outfits, I also had a go of visually analyzing the Shopbop Summer best sellers list. Here is what I have found.
The Color Palette Feels Softer and More Costal: Bright neons are taking a backseat to creamy whites, sandy neutrals, butter yellow, soft blue, chocolate brown, and washed tropical prints. I’m taking note of this as I am packing my future suitcase in my head. It might make things easier to mix and match.
Linen Is Still The Vacation Uniform: Linen dresses, relaxed pants, matching skirt sets, and oversized button-downs are all coming in multiple shades and silhouettes this year. I am all for this, as linen one of the most breathable and practical fabrics. Just be sure to be wary of your sunscreen - some of the mineral ones tend to leave an unfortunate stain on the fabric.
Shell Jewelry Is Having a Major Moment: Should we call this “Shellmaxxing”? Seashell pendants, scallop motifs, pearl-and-shell combinations, and ocean inspired charms are everywhere - but elevated. Think gold shell pendant you wear in Capri, not puka shells from 2004.
